Mens sana in corpore sano

Get fit, stay fit!

To stay physically and mentally fit you should take care of your nutrition.  What are the components of a healthy diet?  It is full of variety, and because everybody enjoys a titbid, nothing is really taboo.  It is the combination and portion size that counts...

The canteen menus are based on the suggestions of the German Nutritional Institute.  In this way we make it easy for you to eat healthy.

Loads of veggies !

Foods such as vegetables, fruit, bread, grain products and potatoes are the main components in a healthy diet. They contain a lot of carbohydrates, the perfect source of energy. Potatoes and grains provides us with important proteins, little fat, and lots of vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre. Make use of wholewheat products, these contains high dosages of fibre. Fruit and veggies has ingredients which prevent the development of cancer and vascular diseases. Five portions of fruit and veggies every day keeps you healthy!

Animal matters !

Meat, polony, fish, eggs, milk and dairy products from animals.  They provide us with protein, iron, iodine, calcium and vit. B.  For a sufficient calcium intake fresh milk should be part of your diet.  We advise you to not eat meat more than three times a week.  More than three eggs a week should not be in the diet.  Fish is a source of iodine, and should be eaten twice a week.

Little fat!

Fast food, sweets, fatty polonies and meat increases your fat intake every day!  To maintain a healthy body these foodstuffs must be a minor part of the diet.  Two spoons of oil, and two spoons of butter is sufficient to provide you with essential fatty acids each day.  Choose poly unsaturated fats like olive oil or rape-oil.

Clever drinking!

Don't wait till you're thirsty before you have a drink! Insufficient fluids decreases your concentration capacity. You need at least 1,5 liter of water daily. Water and herbal teas are appropriate drinks to quench your thirst.

Snacking through the day !

Providing mind and body with enough energy every day can be achieved by snacking all day long. Healthy salads, fruit and yogurts are appropriate snacks - have a look in the cafeteria.

Move your body!

Indulge in fresh air! Especially those spending a lot of time in front of the computer, in the lecture halls, or in the library. During your studies it is important to go for a walk or play sports at least half an hour each day. Do yourself, your nerves and your figure a favour and get out in the fresh air!
