History
The Studentenwerk Marburg has been at students' service for more than 85 years
1920
The mensa academica opens it doors and caters daily for approximately 150 students.
1921
The articles of association for the "Studentenheim Marburg e.V" was established on February 22, 1921. Dr. Franz Leonard became the chairman, the student Hans Sikorski managed economic matters.
1922
A house in the Reitgasse 11 was bought and functioned as student boarding house and canteen with reading, writing, and common rooms.
1923
After the first world war it was possible for students to use firewood as a form of payment for their studies and other services such as trams.
1924
Prof. Dr. Hermelink purchases the Bettinahouse in 14 Sybelstrasse for the use of the Council.
1927
Dr. Carl Duisberg opens a house carrying his name; funds from the church allows the purchase of Forsthof. The famous author Bettina Brentano (1785-1859) lived here from 1802 - 1805.
1933
Renaming of the Council to "Studentenwerk Marburg e.V.". In 1938 the Council was liquidated and affiliated to the "Reichsstudentenwerk" in Berlin.
1946
The Student Council was transfered to the Philipps Universität as a trustfund asset. The military government gave the Dr.Carl Duisberg house and the Forsthof to the disposal of the Student Council.
1947
The Bettinahaus was handed back by the American forces. The Student Council obtains a second canteen in the Gutenbergstrasse 18 where 1500 Meals are served every day. The canteen in the Reitgasse serves 2500 meals every day.
1948 till 1950
The Council receives donations of great value from the USA, Switzerland and Sweden.The canteen in Gutenbergstrasse is closed down.
1950
The local Student Council finds together under the new name "Verband Deutscher Studentenwerke e.V." .
1953
The purchase of the house in Reitgasse 13 allows an expantion of the facility and offers more room for the administration.
1957
The Student Council offers means of student financing according to the Honneffer Model and handled 2000 applications per year.
1961
The laying of the foundation stone for the Students Village (820 rooms).
1962
The new canteen building at Erlenring was inaugurated. As from the 1st of April the Student Council is converted to an institution under public law.
1976
The Karl-Egermann-Haus in Wehrda is built. The Christian-Wolff-Haus is purchased from the Marburger Universitätsbund, as from 1990 it offered four new hostels.
1985
A cafeteria and canteen are opened at the Lahnberge Clinic. The Student Council employs ca. 270 staff members, 120 of these are part time workers.
1997
In December the installation of an elevator for the physically disabled starts.
1998
As from July the elevator for physically disabled students can be used. The modification of the cafeteria on the ground floor at Erlenring starts. During the modification bussiness carries on as usual on all the other floors.
1998
The modification of the first half of the Franz-Lambert-Haus is completed in October. The conversion of 49 single rooms into 32 appartments with internet, TV, and telephone connection was completed
1999
In May the inauguration of the new Bistro on the ground floor at the Erlenring Studentenhaus takes place.
Winter Semester 1999/2000
The modification of the second half of the Franz-Lambert house was completed. The Student Council can now offer boarding and lodging to 2155 students. In December the Konrad Biesalski house celebrates its 30th anniversary. On the 15th of December a bioreactor took over the clarifaction of waste water produced by the Student House.
2000
In January the new scullery was opened. Metall trays was discarded and made space for fine porcelain crockery.
26.Juni 2000
After renovations a part of the new dining hall is opened on the second floor of the Erlenring Studentenhaus and canteen.
July 2000
Residents of the Konrad Biesalski house (KBH) recieves Internet access in their rooms.
End of July 2000
An outdoor dining-space was being built.
October 2000
The modification of the first half of the Adolf-Reichwein house is completed. 62 single rooms was rebuilt to 52 single rooms with shower, kitchen and internet access
October 2001
An Info-Point was built at the entrance of the Student House, visitors can collect information here.
April 2002
To celebrate the 550th birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, born on the 15th of April 1452, we named the new cafeteria opened at the AudiMax "Cafe Leonardo".
January 2003
88 Richtsberg receives internet access.
October 2003
After renovations are completed we are proud to open the new Milchbar.
November 2003
After finishing the renovations of the Sylvester-Jordan house students can move into the rooms again.
