Scholarships


The largest Scholarship programme can be found at the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD). Post graduates can apply for a scholarship at the DAAD. Most home countries have external representatives of the DAAD at the local universities Außenstellen / Informationszentren. Mostly these are lecturers in the department of German language studies.

Financial support for foreign students in a financial crisis

International students not managing their finances at some stage of their studies are allowed to receive a single financial support from the church. Some universities have private associations supporting the foreign students in times of need. Please contact the social services of the Student Council or the Akademische Auslandsamt at the Philipps-University to get more information.



1. BAföG is the financial support programme for German students. In certain cases foreign students qualify for this support as well.

Foreign students may receive BAföG when:

  • a parent has German citizenship or
  • the married partner has German citizenship or
  • the student is without citizenship, asylum or accepted refugee
  • a parent worked in Germany for three years within six years before enrollment or
  • the student worked in Germany for five years before enrollment.

2.In exceptional cases foreign students may receive financial support from the government, more infos under Bildungskredit .

3. In exceptional cases it is possible to receive housing free of charge, and other reductions. Please contact the social services of the Student Council Studentenwerk Marburg for more information.

Jobbing

All foreign students not coming from a EU/EWR-state or Switzerland must have a working permit if they want to work in Germany.  There are many conditions about the nature of your job, make sure to inform yourself Deutschen Studentenwerk
